google foundersWho Founded Google?

It began as a school project for two young Stanford University students in 1996. Sergey Brin and Larry Page, both PhD candidates, were assigned to work on the Sanford Digital Library Project which had a goal of ‘developing the enabling technologies for an integrated and single universal digital library.’ They went on to create the largest and most popular search engines in the world, Google with each of them having a net worth of over $12 billion as of 2009.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Page
Larry Page began his computer career at a very young age, following in the footsteps of his parents, both computer science professors at Michigan State University of which the youngest Page sibling later attended and received a Bachelors of Science degree (with honors) in computer engineering. According to Page, his parents had computers and computer parts ‘all around the house’ in addition to Popular Science magazines. This combination intrigued the young child and soon he was disassembling everything he could get his hands on – from toasters to television sets. He wanted to see how things worked.

does Google own the internetWill Google Ever own the World Wide Web or be satisfied with Just Most of it?

One might think that Google owns the World Wide Web because they are the largest and most popular search engine on the planet; however no one owns the World Wide Web, yet.

Google has the most extensive, easy to navigate and most relevant search engine available, beating out the likes of Yahoo! and MSN several times over. People are Googling everything and anything, even themselves. An individual could set up e-mail alerts from Google so that when the subject you are interested in is updated, you will receive an e-mail or ‘Google’ alert. For example if you set up an alert for yourself – John J. Smith, every time a John J. Smith is mentioned on the Internet, you will be notified. Of course, no matter what your name is, there are many of the same names.

The Google Empire – Still Owned and Run by Brin & Page – Used by Everyone

Before someone can say ‘Google it’ they could have a list of information miles long- approximately two billion sites for many one word keywords and keyword phrases like chocolate or diet grape drinks. Google has everything that is online and then some. An individual can see a close up of their house or anyone else’s house for that matter, in real time, on Google Earth and Google Maps – talk about giving tools to stalkers. This is the kind of ‘eerie’ control this company has over the planet although millions of people don’t seem to care and can’t live or work with out the colorful search engine that does so much more than search.

Everyday, millions of people all around the world, look up everything from ‘how to safely/humanely rid my backyard of gofers’ to ‘celebrity information on Vincent D’Onofrio’ to ‘how to cook a tuna cheese casserole’ and everything in-between or just plain anything under the sun. Google is the most used search engine on the planet, yet most people don’t have a clue as to where it began, who owns it and what else it can do.

Google Search Engine Results – Organic Versus Sponsored

An organic search could sometimes be called a ‘natural’ or ‘pure’ search because the results brought back by the search pages are based on keyword relevancy and content, not on who paid the most money to be featured at the top spot (like those found on Overture.com).

Google has always been a campaign for organic or ‘natural’ searches. Their principal focus has been and always will be the fast return of highly appropriate results based on what is written within the webpages – the content in addition to other ‘objective’ measures. Google has always been good about separating organic searches from the sponsored listings. There has been a blending of the two – sponsored and organic searches by several of the other search engines however public outcry has deemed this unacceptable because there were no clear labels as to what a ‘paid’ listing was and what a ‘natural’ listing was. Plus, there was a stern warning from the FTC regarding this in 2002, although, nothing became of it.

Is Googlebot the same as "Add an URL" or how does it Work?

Just as in the beginning when Sergey Brin and Larry Page first started Google, the search engine runs on several low-cost computers – only this time thousands – for faster processing. Analogous processing is a technique of calculations in which many different computations can be preformed concurrently which will speed up the data processing considerably.

There are three parts to the Google network that works together to make it function properly. The fist is the Googlebot, a web sycophant that will find and retrieve web pages. Next is the Indexer that sorts every page and every word for the database and finally there is the query processor that will compare a search to the index and make a recommendation it feels is most relevant.
